Hatch – Green Chile Capital!

There is a special sizzle in the air come late summer, early autumn. That sizzle directly correlates with this small south-central New Mexico town tucked quietly between Truth or Consequences and Las Cruces.  This sizzle also carries with it one of the most well-known and loved New Mexican  savory odors… the spicy, pungent smell of fresh roasting chile.  Called “The World’s Best Chile Pepper” … Hatch green chile does the town up proper!   The Hatch Chile Festival attracts people  from around the world to this popular Labor Day weekend one-of-a-kind event.

ChilesAlthough Hatch is the green chile capital, there’s more to Hatch than just great green chile.  The entry way to New Mexico’s  Spaceport America, the world’s first purpose-built commercial spaceport, is only nine miles south of the village of Hatch.  This new “gateway to Space” brings a new and exciting frontier of commercial space travel to the world….and all in the backyard of tiny Hatch.

Located directly off I-25,  Hatch is also a stone’s throw away from great outdoor recreation areas.  The nearby Rio Grande offers river adventures as well as two of New Mexico’s most popular lakes Elephant Butte Reservoir and Caballo Lake (Spanish for horse), both located about twenty  miles north of Hatch, offer numerous outdoor opportunities.  Hatch: green chile and more!
